Welcome to Herdwicks Coniston
Herdwicks café and bistro is a family run business, headed up by Gemma and Spencer Metcalfe in partnership with Jon Watson and his wife Jo McGrath.
Gemma makes sure everything runs smoothly for our customers while in the kitchen head chef Spencer works his magic on the high quality beef and herdwick lamb sourced directly from Jon's farm - Yew Tree Farm, Coniston. Jo McGrath is a well known local artist and her work can be seen gracing the walls of the cafe.
Together this team have created Herdwicks- a perfect place to enjoy high quality food in a beautiful setting.
Top quality food
Our chef Spencer recreates imaginative dishes using award winning local beef and lamb from Yew tree farm. Menus change regularly to suit the seasons and vegetarian options are always available.
Meals and snacks
Cooked breakfasts are served until 11:30 and home cooked meals, sandwiches and snacks are available throughout the day. Try one of our homemade soups and a roll after a walk on the fells or pop in for coffee and homemade cake after a walk on the fells.
Coffee and cakes
Our bread , scones and teacakes are made by Fat Flour, a fantastic local artisan bakery based at Grange over Sands and our coffee is produced by Red Bank coffee roasters in Coniston.
